On average 62% of people across Europe believe their health to be good – highest in Switzerland (79%) and lowest in Russia (34%). However, having good health doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re not concerned, or worried. For example in Spain, although 3 out of 4 people believe they have good health, 90% are worried about it. It’s in the Netherlands that there appears to be least concern – 72% have good health and only 12% say they worry about it. View table Overall levels of awareness about health conditions and treatments is high – especially in Switzerland (92%) and Germany (87%). However, in Russia 58% of people believe they’re poorly informed. View table Those in Finland are slightly healthier than average (64%) and are working hardest to maintain or improve their health, however they’re second only to Russia with regard to their opinions about how well informed they are (53%). Weight loss, increase in exercise and regularly taking vitamins/minerals are the 3 steps that are most likely to have been adopted over the previous 12 months by people in the 15 countries surveyed. Weight loss being most favoured in the U.K., whereas in the Netherlands they’re more likely to have increased the exercise they do. View table Overall 16% told us they had tried to cut down or give up smoking in the past 12 months –highest in Romania (24%). However, few (5%) had tried nicotine replacement therapy (gum, patches etc.). Conclusions for marketers:Having good health doesn’t necessarily mean that people don’t worry about it. They are taking a number of steps to maintain or improve their health especially in countries like UK and Finland but there are significant differences, by country, with regard to their preferred methods. There would appear to be a demand for advice and information about health conditions and treatments in some countries especially Russia, Finland and Hungary. |
